Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) takes place on November 20, and it is a time to honor the transgender men and women who have violently lost their lives in the past year just for being who they are.
There have been 25 trans people reported murdered in 2017.
Started in 1999 by trans activist, author and journalist Gwendolyn Ann Smith in honor of her friend Rita Hester, TDoR has become an annual day of observance not only for the LGBTQ community but their loved-ones and allies.
Events across the nation will observe Transgender Day of Remembrance with vigils, special guest speakers and dedications to emphasize the victims did not die in vain. Here are some U.S. cities that are planning special events for Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday, November 20, 2017:
