Transgender woman bashed on NY subway and catches a photo of her attacker

Jennifer Louise Lopez, a transgender woman from New York City, was attacked on the subway in late January and she’s fighting back with a picture of her assailant. Lopez and police want the public’s help identifying the woman who attacked her.

Lopez was riding an uptown D train on January 30 when another passenger demanded to know whether she is female or male. The woman continued to yell transgender slurs before physically attacking Lopez.

Other passengers quickly surrounded the two and broke up the altercation, but not before Lopez was injured badly enough to require emergency eye surgery.

Lopez was able to capture a photo of her attacker and has posted it online. Other passengers recorded the assault on video.

If you have any information about the crime, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

Watch below as NBC4 New York details the attack and interviews Lopez.
