WASHINGTON — House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says that even if reports of high-pressure management techniques at Amazon are true, “they won’t be taking place anymore.”

Pelosi says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had said very clearly that “it’s not the company that he knows.”

A New York Times article over the weekend portrayed the online retailer’s work culture as “bruising” and “Darwinian.”

Pelosi visited the Amazon campus in Seattle on Tuesday to discuss the Equality Act, which would guarantee explicit, permanent protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. But she also noted House Democrats’ efforts to promote fair pay, paid leave, child care and retirement security for women.

The California Democrat says “this subject is front and center for us. And I believe that it will be now for Amazon.”
