Former Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said Sunday she — like many prominent Democratic political figures — has evolved on the topic of same-sex marriage, and now supports marriage equality for gays and lesbians.
Napolitano, now President of the University of California, appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” and said that while she served as Governor of Arizona from 2003 to 2009, “the evolution hadn’t occurred, and my statements were very much in that way.”
“This was something that society in a way, the arc of history, as it were, needed to get there, and the arc of history has clearly arrived,” she said.
