HRC: Paul Ryan is ‘just as anti-LGBT as the top of the ticket’

Over the past two days, the Human Rights Campaign has compared President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney’s stances on issues of equality – covering bullying and hate crimes so far – but, reminds us that vice-presidential hopeful Paul Ryan is just as anti-LGBT as the top of the ticket.

The HRC offers this look at Ryan’s record in the House of Representatives:

  • Ryan voted against hate crimes protections for LGBT people twice;
  • Ryan does not support marriage equality – in fact, he has twice supported the Federal Marriage Amendment that would ban loving, committed same-sex couples from marrying, and he supported a similar constitutional amendment in his home state of Wisconsin;
  • Ryan voted in favor of banning gay and lesbian couples from adopting in the nation’s capital; and
  • Ryan voted against repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
  • While on the campaign trail, Ryan has frequently spoken out against marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples.
