More fodder for ‘One Million’ moms: JC Penney ad features gay dads

Retailer JC Penney just hasn’t gotten the message — the rabidly anti-gay group One Million Moms “is disturbed” over “another homosexual ad” from JC Penney, this one featuring two real-life gay dads celebrating Father’s Day.

Under the banner “First Pals,” the ad in the June JCP catalog shows two men on the floor playing and hugging their two children at home.

The ad reads, “What makes Dad so cool? He’s the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver – all rolled into one. Or two. Real-life dads Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their children Claire and Mason.”

In its latest call to action against JCP, OMM said it “is disturbed that JC Penney is continuing down the same path of promoting sin in their advertisements.”

It is obvious that JCP would rather take sides than remain neutral in the culture war. JCP will hear from the other side so they need to hear from us as well. Our persistence will pay off! One day we will answer for our actions or lack of them. We must remain diligent and stand up for Biblical values and truth. Scripture says multiple times that homosexuality is wrong, and God will not tolerate this sinful nature.

OMM will continue to avoid shopping at JCP until they take a neutral stand.

This is not OMM’s first, or even second, tangle with JC Penney.

Earlier this month, JCP infuriated OMM for featuring a lesbian couple in its Spring catalog. Under the title “Freedom of Expression,” the ad depicted “Wendi and her partner Maggie and daughters.” In the photo, both women are wearing wedding bands.

And earlier this year, OMM launched a public campaign demanding that the retailer fire spokesperson Ellen DeGeneres because she’s gay.

JC Penney officials dismissed the group’s demands, and stood firmly behind DeGeneres. Eventually, OMM abandoned its campaign against JC Penney, because, said its Director Monica Cole, “other issues require her group’s attention, so OMM is moving on.”

The group is asking its supporters to call local stores to harass JC Penney store managers — who have nothing to do with the company’s marketing strategies — because corporate officials have ignored their complaints and blocked incoming emails originating from One Million Moms’ server.

One Million Moms, whose membership is really closer to 47,000 judging by its Facebook page, is “a project of the American Family Association (AFA)” — the AFA has been designated as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

So far this year, the group has called for boycotts against the Gap, Urban Outfitters, Archie Comics and Toys R Us, and DC and Marvel comics.
