“My Transparent Life,” from Ryan Seacrest Productions, will follow Ben, a teenager who learns both that his parents are going to divorce and that his father, Charlie, is transitioning into Carly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will intimately follow Ben, his family and friends as they support each other through the unexpected journey as Carly experiences the many stages of her transition from male to female.

The show is described as a generational story of a loving family and circle of friends, supporting each other through an unfamiliar and unexpected situation.

“While Ben’s family situation is unusual, the themes and coming-of-age issues are universal, and we think our viewers will find a real connection to them,” Tom Ascheim, President of ABC Family, said in a statement about the show.

The Disney-owned cable network has not yet set a date for the series.
