SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Face covered and mouth taped shut, alternative folk and rock singer Michelle Shocked staged a sit in outside a Santa Cruz nightclub that canceled her show because she made an anti-gay slur at a San Francisco club earlier this month.

Embattled folk singer Michelle Shocked, who last weekend stunned a San Francisco audience with an anti-gay rant, tweeted Friday that she still plans to appear at a California club on Saturday, even though the venue cancelled her appearance due to her homophobic remarks.

Audio emerged Wednesday of folk singer Michelle Shocked’s performance at a San Francisco club on Sunday night, in which her anti-gay remarks have led to a firestorm of criticism among the LGBT community and its allies, and led to an abrupt end to her U.S. tour.

Folk singer Michelle Shocked, who stunned a San Francisco audience on Sunday night after breaking into an anti-gay rant in which she said, “God hates fags,” only to see the remaining dates of her U.S. tour cancelled, has now issued two rambling statements in which she distances herself from the tirade that has brought her widespread criticism from the LGBT community and allies.
