A Republican candidate who has centered her campaign message around homophobia is now responding to unnamed critics accusing her of being gay for driving a Prius.
“They say driving a Prius is a little gay,” Republican candidate for Missouri secretary of state Valentina Gomez said in a recent video posted to social media, “until I pull out this little guy.” She pulled a rifle out of her car.

Gomez did not name anyone who called driving a Prius “gay,” but a Prius is a hybrid car. Many conservatives are ideologically opposed to driving cars that use electric power and associate the energy that a car uses with a lack of masculinity and homosexuality.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), for example, accused out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg of trying to “emasculate the way we drive” by supporting environmentally friendly transportation like electric vehicles.
Gomez has made hatred of all things gay the central message of her campaign, calling pretty much everything she doesn’t like “weak and gay.”
On X, her supporters had mixed responses to her video. Some still insisted that it’s gay to drive a Prius – implying that that’s a bad thing – while others said that she proved it wasn’t gay. One particularly insecure person also pointed out that people outside the car can’t see the gun; therefore, the car still looks gay from the street.
