The Republican National Committee (RNC) is getting mocked on social media for attacking President Joe Biden for drinking Gatorade.

The RNC Research X account breathlessly posted a short clip of the president drinking orange Gatorade – which the RNC called “mysterious” – and accusing him of using the drink to stay awake while at an event.

“This mysterious orange drink is the only thing keeping Crooked Joe Biden from falling into a deep slumber,” the RNC wrote when posting the video of Biden drinking the orange liquid out of what many X users identified as a Gatorade bottle. “Yikes!”

The wording was likely a continuation of the rightwing conspiracy theory involving claims that Biden is only able to stay awake in public because he is constantly on some kind of drug.

Conservatives spent years claiming that Biden is too old and infirm to stay awake, a claim that is belied by Biden’s constant public appearances where he is awake and alert. So Donald Trump, earlier this year, upped the ante after the nation was able to see Biden deliver the State of the Union address, not at all looking like the comatose old man Republicans say he is, and accused Biden of being “higher than a kite” during the speech.

And just last month, Trump demanded Biden take a drug test in advance of the presidential debates to lay the groundwork for his likely claims that Biden was on drugs during the debates.

On X, people mocked the RNC for trying to make a conspiracy out of Biden drinking Gatorade.
