A supporter of former President Donald Trump confused an MSNBC anchorperson by comparing Trump to Jesus. The comparison occurred after the supporter was asked about Trump’s promise to seek revenge against those who have legally prosecuted him, including those connected to the 34 felony criminal charges that Trump was found guilty of in late May.

In an interview aired on Sunday, MSNBC’s Vaughn Hillyard attended Trump’s rally in Las Vegas, Nevada where the temperature rose above 100 — leaving 11 attendees hospitalized for heat exhaustion, the Associated Press reported. At the rally, Hillyard interviewed a man calling himself Ira Kimball.

Hillard asked Kimball, “If Donald Trump does get back in the White House, would you want him to seek retribution against those who have brought these charges against him?”

Kimball answered, “When we think about Jesus Christ himself, everybody went against him because he was preaching love and doing what was right for the people. Trump is doing what is right for this nation, and because he is doing that, everybody is against him.”

After watching the clip, MSNBC anchorwoman Alex Witt stated, “By the way, that person you interviewed? I thought he was going to say that Donald Trump is preaching love. At which point I was going to go, really?”

Since Trump’s conviction, numerous memes on social media have shown Jesus hugging Trump and saying, “I was persecuted as well.” While Jesus was executed for blasphemy, Trump was convicted of making illegal hush-money payments to hide his extra-marital affair with an adult video actress in an attempt to fraudulently sway the 2016 election.

Fellow Trump-supporter Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) also compared Trump to Jesus while speaking at his Las Vegas rally, saying, “The Democrats and the fake news media want to talk about ‘Trump is a convicted felon.’ You want to know something? The man that I worship is also a convicted felon. And he was murdered on a Roman cross.”

Trump has repeatedly spoken about seeking revenge against his political and legal enemies if he is re-elected as president in November.
