Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is very loyal to former President Donald Trump, going so far as to defend him from accusations that he has repeatedly fallen asleep during his hush money trial in New York — she said that he actually looks “pretty” while he was “praying.”
Conservatives have spent the past several years saying that President Joe Biden is in a state of “cognitive decline,” that he’s too old and too lethargic to be president, with Trump even calling him “Sleepy Joe.”

One person made fun of her social media habit, but otherwise she didn’t get much attention.
But Trump’s supporters have painted themselves into a corner now that more and more evidence of his own lack of mental vigor is coming to light.

Out Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) discussed at length, yesterday in a committee hearing, that Trump has been falling asleep during his criminal trial in New York. In the trial, he faces 34 charges connected to an alleged scheme to pay hush money to adult actress Stormy Daniels, fraudulently record the payment as a business expense, and illegally influence the 2016 presidential election.
“Here we have a photo of Donald Trump through some of his trial,” Garcia said, indicating a giant picture behind him of Trump sleeping. Garcia listed reports of Trump sleeping through various stages of his trial.
This bothered Rep. Boebert, who had visited New York earlier that day to show her support for Trump.

“Every so often, Mr. Garcia, maybe you could lift up that picture of our — President Trump’s sleeping, as you say,” Boebert said, sounding like she thought she finally had one on Garcia. “I — I think he’s praying.”
“But if he is sleeping, you know, certainly looks pretty while he sleeps,” she said, smiling. “Maybe it’s an endearing moment of prayer, though.”
“Maybe it’s just a somber moment of thought,” she continued. Garcia pushed back, and she responded, “I was in the courtroom today, and I — I do — I could see why someone would fall asleep.”
“It’s kind of slow in there — not as exciting as the House Oversight Committee — and I just want to say that’s a lovely picture you have of President Trump, Mr. Garcia.”
Boebert was part of a gaggle of GOP Congressmembers to attend Trump’s trial on Thursday, along with Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Michael Cloud (R-LA), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Bob Good (R-VA), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), and Andy Ogles (R-TN). Gaetz and Boebert — who have both, like Trump, had public sex scandals, with Gaetz being accused of sexual impropriety with minors — were reportedly seated just behind Trump in the first row of the gallery at the trial.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) visited the Trump trial earlier this week, along with a group of Senate Republicans and transphobic former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
