Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) once praised Air National Guardsman Jack Douglas Teixeira for telling “the truth” by leaking military secrets about U.S. aid to Ukraine. A federal court just sentenced the 22-year-old Teixeira to 16 years in prison, and his past social media posts show that he supported terrorism and wanted to assassinate “weak-minded” people by shooting them from a vehicle.

Teixeira enlisted in 2019, received top-secret security clearance in 2021, and began posting classified documents online in January 2022, ABC News reported.

He reportedly shared information about military equipment the U.S. and other Western countries were sending to Ukraine, the equipment’s transfer and use, Ukrainian troop movements, and a foreign adversarial plot to attack U.S. forces abroad. He posted these on Discord using the screen name “theexcalibereffect,” “took steps to conceal his unlawful activity,” and bragged about breaking numerous unauthorized disclosure regulations, adding, “No one knows anything incriminating about me,” court documents said.

After he was arrested in April 2023, Greene — a longtime opponent of the U.S. support for Ukraine —wrote a still active post on X, stating, “Jake Teixeira is white, male, christian, and antiwar. That makes him an enemy to the Biden regime. He told the truth about troops being on the ground in Ukraine and a lot more”

“Ask yourself who is the real enemy?” Greene continued. “A young low level national guardsmen? Or the administration that is waging war in Ukraine, a non-NATO nation, against nuclear Russia without war powers?”

Numerous commenters noted that it seemed strange for Greene, a member of the U.S. House Committee for Homeland Security, to publicly support someone accused of mishandling classified military secrets. His leaked information about military actions, troop movements, and arms shipments put “fellow soldiers’ lives at risk in addition to jeopardizing strategic planning,” The Daily Beast reported.

Greene has previously said that the U.S. should stop supporting Ukraine’s “possible Nazi militias” against Russia’s unprovoked military invasion because Ukraine is sex trafficking kids and harvesting their organs.

After his arrest, The Boston Globe revealed that Teixeira was suspended from high school in 2018 for making “racial threats” and remarks at school about bringing guns and Molotov cocktails onto campus. His remarks caused him to undergo an involuntary psychiatric evaluation and the denial a gun permit from the local police department.

“I hope ISIS [the Islamic State terrorist group] goes through with their attack plan and creates a massacre at the World Cup,” Teixeira wrote in one online conversation. “If I had my way I’d kill a f–k ton of people … Bc in all honesty you have to … whether or not you like it … Seriously I would be forcibly culling the weak-minded.”

In other comments from February 2023, Teixeira said he wanted to transform a minivan into an “assignation van,” asked which rifle would be easiest to operate from the back of a SUV, and talked about conducting a shooting in a “crowded urban area or suburban environment.”

Teixeira initially pleaded not guilty in June 2023 to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information. He pleaded guilty to six charges on Monday and must sit for a debrief with the Department of Defense, Justice Department, and “members of the Intelligence Community” to discuss his leak. He must also return all classified documents he possesses.

In exchange for his pleas, prosecutors didn’t charge him with additional counts under the Espionage Act. Last December, 15 airmen were disciplined for failing to take proper oversight actions to prevent and respond to Teixeira’s leaking of military secrets.

Greene’s support of Teixeira is part of a wave of increasing Republican support for Russia over long-term U.S. military allies. The frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump, has never spoken against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Numerous anti-LGBTQ+ conservatives have supported Russia’s crackdown against the queer community.
