Hypocrite Marjorie Taylor Greene broke a rule she loves to use against liberals

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) likes to call out political opponents for not dressing formally enough, especially in Congress and in the presence of the president.

Now Democrats are calling her out for wearing a red cap and a t-shirt intended to stir anti-immigrant sentiment to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

Greene has made chiding people for their lack of formal dress a part of her brand. Last year, she raged at Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) for wearing hoodies in Congress, telling him that “dress code is one of society’s standards that set etiquette and respect for our institutions.”

She also lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy because he “can’t even wear a tie as he greets the President of the United States.”

“He gladly takes our money in sweat shirts and t-shirts, but Biden is dressed up,” she posted on X at the time. “So insulting. America Last!!!”

Now it’s Greene who’s getting called out for her lack of respect. She wore a red MAGA cap to last night’s State of the Union address and a t-shirt with “SAY HER NAME” printed on it and a button with Laken Riley’s picture.

Riley was a nursing student from Georgia who was killed, and the main suspect is an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela. The suspect has already been arrested and charged with murder. MAGA — or “Make America Great Again” — is a phrase associated with Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns.

“MTG in direct violation of the rules of the House by wearing campaign insignia on the House floor,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) wrote on X.

On MSNBC, former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said that she thought hats were banned.

“I’m really surprised that she is not being asked to remove that hat,” she said. “It makes me think that Speaker [Mike] Johnson is really afraid of her.”

“Because there is a rule,” host Rachel Maddow responded. “There’s a strict rule, no hats for any reason.”

“Especially a hat that is — you know, I’m not aware of any time a hat is allowed on the floor of the Senate,” McCaskill said. “I’m not as familiar with the House rules, but you could never wear a hat on the floor of the Senate. So, I’m not sure, other than, if the speaker just doesn’t want to have the sergeant-at-arms tell her to remove it, because if he did they would probably remove him from speaker, she’d file a motion.”

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid called the hat “an incredibly tacky choice.”

“There’s nothing that she does that is surprising but it’s open me for the dignity of the office that she holds, regardless of you know, the QAnon stuff, she’s a member of the United States Congress, at some point, one would think you would aspire to have a minimal amount of dignity in your presentation, and she has no such aspiration,” Reid said.

For several days on social media, Greene has been pressing people to “say her name,” referring to Riley. The phrase is a reference to protestors in 2020 who said, “Say his name,” in reference to George Floyd, a Black man who was killed by white police officer Derek Chauvin.

She shouted at Biden to say Riley’s name last night during his speech, and he did, saying that she was “an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal… that’s right.”

“My heart goes out to you, having lost children myself. I understand,” Biden said, addressing Riley’s parents. Biden lost his eldest daughter, Naomi, in a car accident when she was just 13 months old and his eldest son, Beau, to brain cancer.

Greene wasn’t satisfied, though, calling Biden’s speech “the most divisive and angry campaign style SOTU speech from any president in history” and criticizing him for allegedly not pronouncing Riley’s name correctly.

“The state of our union is disgraceful.”

During the State of the Union, Biden attacked Trump for his anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies.

“I will not demonize immigrants, saying they ‘poison the blood of our country,’ as he said in his own words,” Biden said. “I will not separate families. I will not ban people from America because of their faith.”

Last month, Republicans rejected a bipartisan bill that would have increased funding for border security that C. Stewart Verdery Jr. at The Hill referred to as a “one-sided deal that favors Republican enforcement policy.” Trump opposed the bill, which led to its death in Congress.
