Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) called out many of her Republican colleagues in a speech this past weekend, saying that many of them are “stupid.”
“I am sick and tired of the stupid people in Washington making horrible decisions, causing Americans to go broke,” Greene said during a speech she delivered at AmericaFest on Sunday. AmericaFest is a conservative conference run by the far-right and extremely anti-LGBTQ+ organization Turning Point USA.
“The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and that’s because we have stupid people in Washington, D.C., and I can say that for a fact because I work with many of them,” she continued. “And I’m not just talking about Democrats.”

Greene has long criticized the Republican party. During her 2021 AmericaFest speech, she listed out numerous complaints about the Republican Party, starting with how “disappointed” she was that Republicans controlled the House and Senate in 2017 and 2018 and didn’t “produce any bills to send to Trump’s desk” to end abortion, fund a wall between Mexico and the U.S., or repeal the Affordable Care Act, which provides health care to an estimated 40 million Americans. She said this inspired her to run for Congress.
More recently, she has complained about how Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) passed a compromised version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which funds the military. The compromise that made it through the Democratic Senate took out many of the more extreme GOP priorities from the bill, which set Greene off.
“Now, we’re supposed to just grin and take it with no say in the final bill,” she said earlier this month on social media. “This was a total sell-out of conservative principles and a huge win for Democrats. Congratulations to my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, you should all be excited to vote for this! I’m a HELL NO!”
People on the internet, though, thought it was pretty rich that Greene was complaining about stupid people in Congress when, er, she is in Congress.
