In a recent appearance on The View, out MSNBC host Rachel Maddow foreshadowed the horrific consequences of a Donald Trump victory in the 2024 presidential election.

“If you listen to what Trump is saying… he’s basically portraying a future for America, if he is put back in the White House, in which we don’t have another election after that… That’s a strongman form of government,” Maddow warned.

When co-host Sara Haines brought up Trump’s desire to “cancel the news,” Maddow responded, “He wants to put MSNBC on trial for treason so that he can execute us.”

According to Former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton, Trump does in fact believe in this punishment for journalists. Bolton’s 2020 memoir claims Trump called members of the news media “scumbags” who deserve to be “executed.”

The comments came about during a discussion of the current chaos in the House of Representatives as Republicans scramble to choose a new speaker. The frontrunner for the job, anti-LGBTQ+ extremist Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), has lost two consecutive votes for speaker, keeping the House leaderless. Maddow, however, said no leader is better than Jordan, an election denier and Trump ally who poses a grave threat to democracy.

“There was nobody who was more important in Congress to Trump’s effort to overthrow the lawfully elected government of the United States than Jim Jordan,” Maddow said. “So then make him second in line to the presidency? And in charge of Congress certifying the election results in 2024? He’s still in the running, maybe it’ll still be him, that’ll be a big deal if that happens, in all the wrong ways.”

Maddow also said the Republican party will have a lot to contend with if it puts Trump back in the White House.

“Not only do we have a 50/50 shot of him being back in the White House… but the Republican party will have to reckon with that ’til the end of time, in terms of what they did to this country.”
