A gay couple whose surprise double proposal at Disneyland went viral has shared how the heartwarming moment came about.

Video taken and posted to TikTok by another theme park guest shows Javier López Jiménez and Samuel Bishop Macias pausing in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Jiménez is down on one knee offering a ring to Macias, who responds by pulling his own ring out of his back and kneeling in front of Jiménez. The two laugh, shed tears of joy cry, and embrace as onlookers smile and clap. The TikTok clip now has 6.5 million likes and has been shared over 123,000 times.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” Jiménez recently told Today.com. “I only wanted to propose. I wasn’t expecting anything, except a yes from him. But I am very happy that he proposed after me.”

The couple, who live in Guadalajara, Mexico, have been together for seven years. Their trip to Disneyland was their first outside of Mexico in years, so they both wanted to make it special.

Macias purchased his engagement ring all the way back in January in the hopes of finding the perfect moment to propose. Unbeknownst to him, Jiménez also bought a ring in May. Macias told Today that he suspected Jiménez was going to propose on their trip and planned to beat him to it.

“I was like, OK, if Javier wants this, I don’t know when he’s going to decide to do it, but if he doesn’t do it, I’ll do it. Sorry,” Macias said.

But ultimately, Jiménez surprised his now-fiancé in front of the park’s iconic castle.

“For me, it was perfect,” Jiménez said.

“I was like, ‘OK, this is happening,’” said Macias. “It was very beautiful. We were both crying and laughing together.”
