Angelica Ross alleges Emma Roberts made transphobic comments on “American Horror Story” set

Angelica Ross alleges that she faced transphobic comments from American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts while filming the Ryan Murphy anthology show’s ninth season.

On Monday, Ross took to X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) where she shared screenshots purportedly of emails between herself and Murphy, claiming that he had left her “on read” for more than a year after teasing an American Horror Story season led by Black women.

The “Pose” star says Murphy left her “on read” and suggested he may have cost her a Marvel role.

“If I’m at the point of publicly showing receipts you can believe I don’t have any f*cks left to give when it comes down to it. And I’m not even done pulling out the receipts,” she wrote in one post.

In another post, she promised to tell her followers “about the transphobic remarks my co-star said to my face, and the racism I complained about on set that they said was ‘free speech.’”

Ross made good on that promise during an Instagram Live feed in which she alleged that longtime Murphy collaborator Emma Roberts subjected her to transphobic comments on the set of American Horror Story: 1984. In one clip from the feed posted on X Wednesday, Ross describes a moment on set when Roberts jokingly complained to a crew member—who both BuzzFeed and The AV Club have speculated is likely AHS: 1984 director and executive producer John J. Gray—about Ross “being mean.”

“John is like, ‘Okay ladies, that’s enough, let’s get back to work,’” Ross recalled. “And she then looks at me, she goes, ‘Don’t you mean lady?’”

“My blood is boiling. Boiling,” Ross continued. “Because, I’m like, if I say something, it’s gonna be me that’s the problem. And I know this because there was someone who spoke up about what she was doing, and they got repercussions from it. Not her, they did.”

Additionally, Ross alleged that Roberts “irritated” almost every other actor on set, comparing her salary to others’, yelling at a director, and “playing mind games with people.”

Ross also tweeted on Wednesday about another incident in which she was mimicking co-star Cody Fern’s accent. “Emma then copies my voice & laugh and drops it several octaves,” Ross claimed. “I was SHOOK. She read me for blood with my own words. Of course I was self conscious about my voice on set after that.”

Ross did note in her Instagram Live feed that Roberts, at one point, called out a crewmember who wore racist t-shirts bearing MAGA slogans like “Build That Wall” and “I Don’t Kneel.” Ross said that the same crewmember was responsible for operating a stunt car she was meant to be driving in one scene. She says that she and others on set complained about the crewmember’s t-shirts but were told there was nothing anyone could do about them.

Ross also posted a message urging fans not to joke about threats of violence toward Roberts. “Let me make something absolutely clear,” she wrote. “I appreciate the support but please do not joke about violence towards Emma. Joke about her being held accountable. Now THATs funny.”

Neither Roberts not Ryan Murphy Productions have commented on Ross’s allegations.
