Right-wingers are apparently horrified that, for some unknown reason, when people ask their Google Smart Home speakers to tell them “something positive,” the speakers are only reciting facts about LGBTQ+ people.

The right-wing publication The Daily Caller noted that a woman sent the publication a video of her saying, “Hey Google, tell me something positive today” to her Google Home Spark Speaker.

The device responded, “I learned on Wikipedia that NBA player Jason Collins was on the cover of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2014. He was the first openly gay athlete in any of the four major U.S. sports leagues.”

When the woman repeated her request to the smart device, it replied, “According to Wikipedia, Alan L. Hart was a physician, radiologist, researcher, and author. He pioneered the use of X-rays for the treatment of tuberculosis, and was one of the first transgender men in the U.S. to undergo [gender-confirmation surgery].”

The woman said that she asked the device to tell her “something positive” eight different times, and each time it told her “exclusively gay and transgender-related responses.”

LGBTQ Nation‘s managing editor tried the same thing and he got eight fun facts about LGBTQ+ people when he asked for something positive today, including facts about the two individuals mentioned above and gay computer scientist Alan Turing.

Folks responding to The Daily Caller’s tweet about their article were shocked. One Twitter user commented, “Holy s**t. It’s true. I just tried it. WTF?” Another commenter wrote, “Wow… Corrupt indoctrination via Google…There’re all in bed together.”

In the past, Google smart devices would often repeat facts about animals or entertainment as “something positive.” Google has recently highlighted LGBTQ+ historical figures like choreographer Willi Ninja and Native American lesbian activist Barbara May Cameron in the “doodle” above their massively popular search engine.

LGBTQ Nation contacted Google for comment.
