Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) compared gender-affirming care for youth to “abuse.”
“The abuse of our children MUST END,” the conspiracy theorist wrote on Twitter, alongside a link to an article from the conservative Washington Times saying that youth in the U.S. have more access to gender-affirming care than European youth.
“Stop the permanent genital mutilation of kids now!!” Greene added.

The study cited in the article Greene linked suggests the United States is too liberal in the access it gives children to gender-affirming health care. It was conducted by a far-right organization called Do No Harm, which describes itself as “a national association of medical professionals combating the attack on our healthcare system from woke activists” who are trying to “save medicine.”
The study compares the number of clinics providing gender-affirming care in the U.S. (it says over 300) to countries like Ireland and Norway, which it says only provide it at one hospital each. Both countries, however, have minuscule populations compared to the United States. There are 5.4 million people in Norway and 5 million in Ireland, compared to 331.9 million in the U.S.
On Twitter, people blasted Greene for retweeting the article, pointing out her ignorance and explaining what real child abuse looks like.
How about ending inflation. Increasing the debt ceiling , etc etc.

Gender reassignment surgery is typically only available to those 18 and older in the United States. This post is not rooted in medical care or science, but rather an intentional disinformation campaign. Gender affirming care however, is crucial for the wellbeing of trans youth.

Why are republicans so worried about children’s private places
— Brett (@ChiefsSznAllDay) January 18, 2023
Wow countries the size of Norway have 1 clinic. That’s a good comparison to the US. Also it’s access to services. Services can mean therapists. @RepMTG would you rather these kids unlive themselves?

Here's your new bestie, "George Santos" at a drag event in Brazil. Is George a groomer, Margie? pic.twitter.com/vfa1SF7LC2

Republicans are the ones getting arrested for crimes against children. Talk to your colleagues. I wouldn't trust ANY republican in a room with ANY children. When I see you on tv I tell my grandchildren "that's exactly who you DO NOT want to be like." You're a very bad person.

As usual, your infatuation with children's genitalia is disturbing.

You do know forcing a child to carry a baby to full term is CHILD ABUSE, Be quiet you insignificant HYPOCRITE

Abuse by whom? I see conservatives yell all the time about this "abuse" of gender affirming care but never seem to say who is doing the abusing. It's not like someone underage can get surgery without approval…

Denying gender affirming care (haircuts, new names, clothing, gender acknowledgment) is dangerous and actual abuse. Read a book Marg.

Now do the Catholic church.

Oh by all means Marge! Let's force our children to be someone other than themselves, because that's in no way abusive.
We support our children to be true to themselves and allow them a say in how they live their lives.

Greene has long been promoting hysteria around trans people and gender-affirming care. In August, she introduced a bill that would federally ban the lifesaving health care for minors.
Her bill would make it a class C felony to provide gender-affirming care for transgender minors, ban federal funds from being used for all such care (regardless of a patient’s age), ban medical schools from teaching such care, stop health care plans under the Affordable Care Act from funding gender-affirming care, and ban anyone who provided gender-affirming care from immigrating to the United States.
“It’s really genital mutilation, it’s puberty blockers that cause chemical castration, teenage girls actually having their breasts chopped off, teenage boys being castrated,” Greene told Fox News host Tucker Carlson a week before introducing her bill. “This needs to be illegal.”
Gender-affirming care has been shown to significantly reduce lifelong suicide risk among transgender people. The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, and other major medical/mental health organizations all support gender-affirming care for pubescent youth when appropriate.
