Tony Perkins warns Christians about attending gay weddings

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, has warned Christians about attending weddings between same-sex couples, as it conflicts with the “Biblical truth” of marriage.

Perkins was taking calls on his radio show on Monday, the day before the Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments in the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission case. A baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding is arguing that it would violate his First Amendment right to free speech to be forced to use his creativity in service of a union he opposes on religious grounds.

The host took calls from listeners interested in discussing the case, including one who asked if it was alright for Christians to attend same-sex weddings, as it is imperative to show compassion to gay people, Right Wing Watch reports.

“I get the whole argument about love—‘we just need to show love.’ Sometimes expressing love is standing for truth, and I think we could lull people into a false sense of security by simply going along with what is culturally acceptable in some circles,” Perkins said.

“Now, I’m not going to tell people across the board you shouldn’t go. I haven’t gone that far,” he continued. “I would tell people to be very prayerful about it, but I personally—it’s not something I could do. I don’t think it would be a good representation, people knowing very clearly my stand on biblical truth, and I think other Christians need to bear that in mind as well.”

Not that any queer person in their right, or probably even wrong, mind would invite him in the first place.

Perkins has been a supporter of President Donald Trump, appearing with him at events and pushing his followers to vote for him.

Trump’s lawyer argued in court during the Masterpiece Cakeshop hearings that businesses should be able to hang signs saying they don’t serve LGBTQ people.

Listen to Perkins warn his fellow sheep to steer clear of the gay marriage cliffs below.
