Ellen speaks up about Mississippi’s new religious discrimination law

Ellen Degeneres isn’t known for her political stances, but the recent spate of laws allowing discrimination against LGBT people has the mild mannered comic taking a stand. She spoke out about Mississippi’s new law on her show, but her comments apply to any of the twelve states that have considered or passed similar legislation.

“Now, I’m not a political person, I’m really not. But this is not politics this is human rights,” she said. “And I mean, when I see something wrong, I have to talk about it. It’s the same thing that I do when I see men wearing Spandex in line at Starbucks. It’s wrong and I need to discuss it.”
