Western New York county, Pride Center add senior services

BUFFALO, N.Y. — LGBTQ senior citizens in western New York have a new resource to learn about available services.

The Erie County Department of Senior Services and the Pride Center of western New York have announced a new partnership called the Silver Pride Project.

A Senior Services employee has been assigned to work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community at the Pride Center’s Buffalo office two days a week. The employee will answer questions about benefits and access to care and is also available to speak to senior groups and LGBTQ organizations about the isolation that LGBTQ seniors may feel.

Pride Center senior director Matthew Crehan Higgins says older people in the community are often estranged from their families because of past attitudes.
