Nick Jonas: ‘I’m not a gay icon’

Although he says he’s quite proud of his massive gay fanbase, Nick Jonas says he doesn’t think of himself as a gay icon.

“It’s an honor,” he says, “but I don’t think of myself as an icon. There should be a lot more straight artists who don’t have a problem with having gay fans.”

Jonas, who stars in the series Kingdom as a fighter who’s troubled about his sexuality, wants to play more gay characters in the future.

“I’m really proud to play gay characters and I’ll continue to do so.”

In fact, he thinks more straight artists should embrace their gay fans.

“I think it’s among the challenges of maturing as an actor,” he says.

He refuses to confirm or deny whether he’s ever had sex with another man.

“I can’t say if I have or haven’t,” he told Daily Star Online. “But if you watch the show you’ll see more of that.”
