BOISE, Idaho — Idaho Republican lawmakers upset with federal judges overturning same-sex marriage bans across the country are pushing Congress to impeach judges who rule in favor of marriage equality.

The House State Affairs Committee endorsed the non-binding resolution Tuesday. It now goes to the House floor for a full vote.

Republican Rep. Paul Shepherd of Riggins, who’s backing the resolution, says recent rulings ending bans on same-sex marriage show that federal judges are adjudicating against the intent of the U.S. Constitution.

Idaho’s gay marriage ban – passed in 2006 – was overturned on Oct. 15.
