Fresh from his Oscar win for Lead Actor for his performance as famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything,” British actor Eddie Redmayne is taking on another project that involves a drastic physical transformation.

Redmayne is currently filming “The Danish Girl,” portraying Lili Elbe, one of the first individuals to successfully undergo sex reassignment surgery.
The film follows the relationship between Redmayne’s character and wife Gerda Waud during the transition, which took place in the 1920s, and culminated in the surgery that was performed in Germany in 1930.
“We’re looking at everything from a feminine perspective,” he told the Daily Mail. Redmayne called the true story of Lili and Gerda a study of “authenticity, identity and love.”
“I think it’s the most sensitive role I have played,” the 33-year-old actor added.
The film, from Director Tom Hooper and Working Title productions, is scheduled for release towards the end of the year.
