GREENSBORO, N.C. — The man charged with the brutal beating and death of a North Carolina man appeared in court Wednesday, having his case continued into the new year.

Garry Gupton, 26, is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 9 death of Stephen White, 46.

Gupton and White had met each other at a local gay bar, and after returning to a hotel room later that evening, White was found brutally beaten and set on fire.

He died from the severe injuries nearly a week later on Nov. 15.

Gupton’s case will be moved to Feb. 19.
