Gay teen’s viral video drives funding for Atlanta LGBT homeless shelter

ATLANTA — A non-profit organization in Atlanta will convert a more than century-old midtown building into a homeless center for LGBT teens, according to the organization’s director. The Lost N’ Found organization focuses on helping LGBT teens overcome homelessness.

Lost N’ Found’s director says homelessness is a problem facing hundreds of teens in the Atlanta region, when their parents and churches disown them after they come out as gay, bisexual or transgender.

The group says it is seeing a significant increase in donations through diverted funds for Daniel Pierce, the Georgia teen who secretly recorded his parents’ reaction to his announcement he is gay.

Nearly $100,000 was donated to Pierce to support his living expenses after his parents forced him to move out.
