On a trip to Uganda this spring, Slate’s Thomas Mainz photographed queer Ugandans to piece together a portrait of their day-to-day lives in the shadow of the Anti-Homosexuality Act. What he learned from them surprised him, even though he had been following the news coming out of Uganda for several years.
