Atlantic Beach, Fla., advances LGBT-inclusive human rights ordinance

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — An city ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression cleared its first hurdle Monday in the northeast Florida city of Atlantic Beach.

In a 3-2 vote, commissioners voted for the ordinance which protects LGBT residents and tourists against discrimination in the areas of housing, employment and public accommodations, reports First Coast News.

The ordinance goes up for a second vote on August 11.
