TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama woman is charged with murder for allegedly shooting her son’s long term partner in the back at a truck stop in McCalla, Ala., on Monday evening.
The victim, Jamie R. Johnson, 36, had been shot once and was transported to UAB Medical West in “grave condition,” according to Sgt. Dale Phillips with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit, reported WBRC-TV.
Johnson was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival.
Investigators have determined that Hill’s son and Johnson were “involved in a long-term relationship” and had been together for about four years, and that Hill had concerns about her son’s safety because she believed their relationship had been “abusive,” according to Phillips.

Witnesses say Johnson turned to leave the scene following a meet-up with Hill, and when he turned to walk away, Hill pulled a handgun and shot Johnson in the back.
Police say they do not believe the murder is a hate crime, and are calling the shooting the result of a family dispute.
