Support for the LGBT-inclusive Missouri Non-discrimination Act (MONA) MONA continues to grow as 500 Missouri-based companies from across the state, including two of the Fortune 500, are now voicing their support for workplace protections.
The legislation was introduced in both chambers of the Missouri General Assembly in February
This week, another Fortune 500 company, Kansas-based Sprint, which employs many workers who live in Kansas City, Mo., joined Missouri-based Fortune 500 companies Monsanto and Express Scripts in calling on the Legislature to pass LGBT workplace protections, according to PROMO, Missouri’s statewide LGBT advocacy organization.

Other Fortune 500 companies who have a strong presence in the state and have signed on in support of MONA are ConAgra Foods, J.P. Morgan Chase and Pfizer.
Support has also come from Burns & McDonnell, which placed 14th in Fortune’s 2014 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, and from Inc. 5000’s Polsinelli.

MONA would add sexual orientation and gender identity to Missouri’s Human Rights statute, which currently prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations for other categories, including race, biological sex and familial status.
The bill would expand the definition of discrimination to include any unfair treatment based on a person’s “presumed or assumed” characteristics, and would benefit more than 160,000 LGBT adults statewide.
