World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler Darren Young has become the first active professional wrestling star to announce that he is gay.
The surprise reveal happened as Young — whose real name is Fredrick Rosser — was walking through Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday and was asked by a TMZ cameraman if he thought a gay wrestler could ever make it in the WWE.
“Absolutely. Look at me,” replied Young. “I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”
“Some people might not like it, and some people will like it,” said Young, 29. “I’m happy [with] who I am. I’m comfortable with myself.”

Current WWE champion John Cena said he couldn’t be happier for Young, and is especially proud because he has a brother who is gay and he knows how tough it can be to come out.
“I know Darren personally. Darren’s a great guy. That’s a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it,” said Cena.

A representative for WWE said added that Young is participating in the WWE’s “Be A Star” anti-bullying rallies in Los Angeles “to teach children how to create positive environments for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation.”
