LONDON — British Prime Minister David Cameron has reaffirmed his support for same-sex marriage in a message to mark gay and lesbian Pride Day.
Cameron said a bill legalizing gay marriage, currently before Parliament, would send a message to young gay people that “their love is the same as anyone else’s love.”
He said, “I think this will enable them to stand that bit taller, be that bit more confident and I am proud of that.”
The gay marriage legislation is opposed by many in Cameron’s Conservative Party, but polls suggest a majority of Britons support it.

Same-sex couples in Britain can currently form civil partnerships, which carry many of the same legal rights and protections as marriage.
Thousands are due to march through central London Saturday in the annual Pride parade.
