DOVER, Del. — Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is urging state lawmakers to pass legislation that would establish legal protections based on gender identity.
“I support providing protections from violence and discrimination based on gender identity and expression under Delaware law,” Biden said in a new video released by Equality Delaware.
“I will work with our General Assembly to pass legislation that will provide such protections this year.”

The bill, introduced last week, would add gender identity to the existing list of protected nondiscrimination categories, including race, age, marital status, creed, color, sex, handicap, sexual orientation and national origin.
The measure, which is supported by Gov. Jack Markell, comes just weeks after Delaware became the 11th U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage.
The video is one of three released by Equality Delaware to gain support for transgender rights legislation.
