Hard to believe, but GOP presidential longshot Rick Santorum has gay friends.
Santorum, speaking on Friday to Fox News’ Megan Kelly — who gushes what a nice and compassionate guy Santorum is — said that he has gay friends, and “accepts them as they are,” but disagrees “with them vehemently about what is in the best interest of society.”
“You also have to respect me for feeling very differently about trying to take that orientation and then trying to project that agenda on to the American public that is consistent with that,” Santorum said.
This is the same Rick Santorum who opposes gay marriage, opposes civil unions, wants to reinstate “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and who says gays and lesbians deserve no “privileges.”
This is the same Rick Santorum who signed an anti-gay pledge created by “The Family Leader,” an Iowa-based conservative Christian group, which likens same-sex couples to polygamists and adulterers, and states that homosexuality is both a choice and a health risk.
This is the same Rick Santorum who compares marriage equality to slavery, and makes nonsensical analogies about gay marriage using napkins and paper towels, water and beer, and who knows what else.
This is the same Rick Santorum who has gay friends.
