Out actor James Duke Mason has announced the launch of the Trailblazer Campaign, a new movement to encourage gay actors and musicians, as well as people in general, to come out and be honest about who they are.

The Trailblazer Campaign is modeled after the It Gets Better Project, and aims to help Hollywood come out of the closet — videos from Chad Allen, David Moretti, Perez Hilton, Mike Manning and Sandra Bernhard are reportedly forthcoming.

Mason, 18, introduces his project here:

Trailblazer focuses exclusively on openly gay celebrities, said Mason. “It’s goal is essentially to help create a more accepting environment for openly gay entertainers in Hollywood so that eventually we might have our very own ‘Sidney Poitier,’ our own trailblazer who breaks the barrier for LGBT people.”

Mason, a vocal proponent of LGBT rights, is the son of singer Belinda Carlisle and Morgan Mason, who served in Ronald Reagan’s State Department, and the grandson of film star James Mason.

He is the youngest person ever to be featured on The Advocate Magazine’s “Forty Under 40” List.
