‘So You Think You Can Dance’ airs its first romantic same-sex routine

After 11 years on the air, FOX’s hit show “So You Think You Can Dance,” has finally featured a romance-themed same-sex dance performance.

For the show’s opening number Wednesday, top four finalists Valerie Rockey, Ricky Ubeda, Jessica Richens, and Zack Everhart Jr. performed the routine to the song “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and choreographed by Travis Wall.

While there was no specific proclamation by the show as to the number’s “message,” many viewers inferred the routine to be an homage to marriage equality. A day after the broadcast, Wall posted a photo from the performance with the hashtag #equality.
