The mayor of the town of Borgosesia in northern Italy, says he wants to ban public displays of affection between members of the same-sex.
Gianluca Buonanno, a member of the Italian parliament for the right-wing Northern League party, has proposed that same-sex couples who kiss in public be fined 500 Euros (about $680 USD).
“Gay kisses in public? No thanks,” said Buonanno, according to Italian media outlet Repubblica.it. “I don’t like two people of the same sex exchanging public displays of affection. It’s a matter of respect, and I am convinced that is morally harmful for children.”
European Parliament member Daniele Viotti said Buonanno’s proposal “is just the latest, pathetic publicity stunt by a narrow-minded man who desperately wants to be in the spotlight,” reports the Huffington Post.

Buonanno also praised Russian president Vladimir Putin for Russia’s law banning “gay propaganda.” “From today in my Mayor and MEP offices there will be a photo of Putin,” Buonanno said.
