An Illinois state lawmaker, appearing on a Catholic radio broadcast recently, said same-sex relationships are “completely disordered” and for that reason she is “more than happy” to vote against marriage equality.

It reminded me the time, when as an immigrant I had to fight to be accepted as another human being in a society that only believed that born americans were the only ones allowed to live in USA. It reminded me the time when employment equity law had to be erected to give “others” the right to have dignify jobs in front of the house and not be relegated to the back of the gutters. The bottom line is that is sad that we have to fight for rights, when in essence all of us should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else without fighting for “special rights”, because as americans we all abide with a constitution that is was written to be fair and equal to all….rest my case….

As a queer woman in the same age group- Ive been kept from visiting my partner in the hospital- because my relationship wasnt recognised- I was denied death benefits after taking care of her for over three years and going into debt- I am now living in another country with my British civil partner because our partnership is not recognised in the US- because of people like her who for some reason have the right to vote on my life- Ive had to leave my home, family, pets, friends, job-this has cost me in every way. I want compensation from everyone like her who have voted for the continued discrimination – Id be more than happy to vote on that.
