Police make arrest in murder of gay bar owner in Elmira NY

Police in Elmira, N.Y. have arrested Louis Duffy, 20, in the murder of Clinton “Billy” Lewis, the owner of Club Chill, a local gay bar just blocks from his home.

Police responded to a report of a shots fired and located Lewis inside his residence, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound.

Lewis, 53, was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, and pronounced dead a short time later.

Duffy has been charged with Second Degree Murder, and is being held without bail. Police said Lewis and Duffy were acquaintances. No other details in the arrest or motive have been made available.

Lewis had helped organize gay pride events in the Elmira area in the past.
