Governor says gay marriage will pass in NY

NY gay marriageThe Governor of New York state has said he expects to sign a bill legalizing gay marriage in the coming weeks.

David Paterson told a dinner arranged by the Empire State Pride Agenda Thursday night that he expects the state senate to pass the legislation soon.

The bill was delayed in the senate back in June, but Paterson says he will place it on the agenda for a special session in the weeks ahead.

The governor’s comments come as advocates and sponsors of the bill in Albany have been quietly working to build support. The Democrat-led Assembly has already passed the measure.

If passed, the legislation will make New York the seventh state to legalize same-sex marriage.
