Plaintiffs in Utah same-sex marriage case get engaged
Derek Kitchen, the lead plaintiff in Kitchen v. Herbert, the federal court challenge to Utah’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, made a Valentine’s Day proposal to his partner and co-plaintiff, Moudi Sbeity, at the Equality Ball in Salt Lake City on Friday evening.

Last week was extraordinary. The issue of same sex marriage was discussed more intelligently than ever before. In depth thought and information, including an outstanding synopsis by the American Sociological Association, appeared as amici briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court. One of these was from 278 employers and organizations arguing from a pro-business perspective. These industry leaders stated that for them to “attract the best employees and colleagues” they must “offer robust workplace benefits and a workplace ethos of transparent fairness.”

School: ‘Singing valentines’ OK for gay students after flyer warned ‘no same-sex deliveries’
WEST JORDAN, Utah — A Utah high school will allow “Singing Valentines” to same-sex students on Thursday after students, faculty and parents complained that a flyer distributed last week singled out LGBT students and was described as anti-gay bullying.

To gay teens this Valentine’s Day: A message
Every year on this fateful day I read the updates pouring down my newsfeed: declarations of love, lyrically written woes of despair, and the preachings of “Singles Awareness Day” advocates. Yet rarely do I see a call to action for LGBTQ teens, a group more heavily effected by Valentine’s Day then most would like to admit.
