Biden condemned the Trump administration’s decision to ban Pride flags from military bases last year, and pledged to overturn it as President – but the Pentagon is continuing it specifically for Pride.

Two senior positions in the Pentagon are being offered to an out lesbian and a trans woman, both veterans who broke multiple barriers and helped end anti-LGBTQ policies in the military.

While there is still an internal review of recruitment policy under way in the Defense Department, the Pentagon made clear that trans people can walk in and start enlisting whenever they’re ready.

“I truly believe, senator… that if you are fit and you’re qualified to serve and you can maintain the standards, you should be allowed to serve,” said Secretary of Defense nominee Lloyd Austin.
