The ACLU informed the school district that the school’s principal and bus driver violated the constitutional rights of an eighth grader by suspending her and misrepresenting her actions.

“I thought I might hear a slur or two, but I didn’t think I would get beat up for bringing as something as innocent as a flag to school.”

The school says the language was “inappropriate.”

The decision came after the ACLU appealed a previous judge’s decision that school officials could deny the club recognition.
