The governor thinks giving doctors, nurses, and EMTs the right to object to treating patients is fine because of “the federal laws that prohibit discrimination.” Without the Equality Act, that doesn’t automatically include LGBTQ people.

The bill lists protected health care professionals, including doctors and nurses and any “individual who furnishes or assists in the provision of a healthcare service.” Employers could demand their health insurance refuse to provide LGBTQ health care.
