Instead, the church is encouraging them to attend meeting for a group that will try to turn them straight.

If it does deem a queer person worthy of a funeral, their partner should not be listed “either by name or by other reference (nor reference to the unnatural union).”

He publicly called for Catholics to stand with our community in the wake of the tragedy at Pulse, and advises the Vatican on LGBTQ issues.

“Ashes are an in-your-face statement that death and suffering are real,” say organizers. “The glitter will be a sign of our hope, which does not despair.”

The Pope’s shift in tone and broad statements about mercy have left a trail of comments that amount to a Rorschach test open to interpretation.
