Republicans win control of U.S. Senate, ready to confront Obama
WASHINGTON — Veteran Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas lost his seat Tuesday to a freshman House Republican, putting the GOP a step closer to its goal of controlling the Senate for the first time in eight years. Rep. Tom Cotton’s win brightened an already happy night for Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who won a sixth term of his own and was poised to become the Senate majority leader if his party could gain six new seats overall.

GOP Rep. Ellmers beats Clay Aiken in North Carolina House race
RALEIGH, N.C. – U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers has won re-election to a third term representing North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.
The incumbent Republican from Dunn defeated her Democratic opponent, singer and former reality-show star Clay Aiken of Cary. According to returns tabulated by The Associated Press, Ellmers was leading Aiken with more than 56 percent of the vote.
