The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles performed a somber rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” that celebrated Fisher’s status as a feminist icon.

“It’s a love story. Carrie wanted to make ‘Bright Lights’ for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie.”

This may have been the first year that Gen X had to confront its own mortality and vulnerability, but the constant siege of bad news took away our optimism as well.
