Two thousand people marched in the Gender Liberation March on Washington D.C. last Saturday, ending up right in front of the conservative Heritage Foundation, the organization responsible for Project 2025.
Marchers voiced their opposition to Project 2025, the conservative plan to reduce personal liberty and consolidate executive power if Donald Trump wins a second term. Marchers demanded bodily autonomy, from access to gender-affirming healthcare to reproductive justice.

The Washington Blade reported that attendees chanted, “Abortion rights are trans rights” as they passed the Supreme Court. When the march arrived at the Heritage Foundation, the party began. DJ J Griffin Maxwell Brooks performed a set and vogued while a dance party began.
Marchers held signs that said “Gender liberation for all,” “Our bodies, our futures,” and “Why are you so obsessed with our bodies?!”
Actor Elliot Page spoke at the march, as did comedian Julio Torres and author Geena Rocero.
“It was important for us to have that moment in front of the Heritage Foundation as a way to bring our queer joy right to their offices and show that no matter what they have planned, they will not win, they will not break us or our spirit,” co-organizer Eliel Cruz said in a statement. “Our communities are resilient and we will always come together and fight back against these attacks to control our bodies and decisions about our healthcare.”
Queer rights and abortion rights are at risk now more than ever. According to the Trans Legislation Tracker, 658 anti-trans bills have been introduced nationwide in 2024. Meanwhile, the Center for Reproductive Rights reports that 14 states have implemented near-total abortion bans following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
